2015 marks the 120th anniversary of Greenpoint’s PS 110, The Monitor School. The celebrations have already begun and will continue throughout the school year to commemorate this momentous benchmark.

The school’s motto is “Growing Hearts and Minds” and for the last 120 years has done exactly that through strong home-school-community partnerships. The school serves children from Pre-K to 5th Grade and offers a rich arts curriculum and a popular French-English dual language program. Principal Anna Cano Amato and Assistant Principal Anna Rocchio have been on staff for more than 30 years, starting as classroom teachers.

PS 110 is dedicated to enriching education, saving the arts and supporting their community.

“It is both a joy and a privilege to serve the PS 110 community,” said Amato. “It has been gratifying to see the growth of our mission to educate the whole child here in Greenpoint.”

To celebrate the anniversary, the students will take part in collaborative events and activities each month, and there will be several public and community events to share the occasion with the school’s neighborhood and its students – past, present and future.

The public celebrations kick off this week with a Wine & Cheese celebration on Thursday November 19th. The evening is open to the community, families of current students, alumni and staff. There will be a raffle with proceeds to cover the 120th Anniversary campaign initiatives. Tickets and more information are available at http://bit.ly/1PoO0na.

Additional planned events include a December Toy Drive, Valentines created and given to a local Senior Citizen home, a Community Service day in McGolrick Park including tree planting and a legacy bench, the implementation of the first ever PS 110 scholarship and the creation of a legacy book including history, archival and current photos.
